As the second round of the NFL draft was winding down, Jimmy Garoppolo’s throwing coach made a prediction.
Jeff Christensen believed that Patriots would take Garoppolo with the 62nd pick.
“You can tell the readers I called it,” he said.
Indeed he did.
The Rolling Meadows High School and Eastern Illinois product is headed to New England to become Tom Brady’s backup – and, potentially, his heir apparent.
The two quarterbacks even have the same agent. Garoppolo said on ESPN that they have not had much contact, but he looks forward to that changing.
“I’ve been looking up to him since I was a little kid and started playing quarterback,” he said.
Christensen, of the Throw it Deep training academy in Lockport said it’s a terrific situation, given that “Tom Brady is his favorite quarterback.”
The 6-2 ¼, 226-pound Garoppolo completed 53 touchdown passes last season.
